Political Sensitisation : European Union
The European Union is a key player when it comes to issues such as climate change, migration, trade and the protection of citizens. To give young people the chance to shape a Europe in their own image, Belgium has marked its democratic history by giving young Belgians over the age of 16 the opportunity to vote in the 2024 European elections.
Yet almost half of Europeans (48.92% to be precise) did not vote in the last European elections in June 2024. Why are some citizens not trying to influence the future of the EU ? Is it the result of a lack of interest, or a lack of knowledge ?
We look at the history of the EU, explore how it works and its institutions, and explain how the different European political groups position themselves on seven different issues (agriculture, defence, migration, etc.).
